Fred M. Aebi

March 22, 1941 - May 18, 2018

Fred M. Aebi, born in Portland, passed away in Medford. He graduated from Milwaukie Union High School in 1958 and went on to attend Portland State University.

In 1967, Fred received his degree of juris doctor from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. He practiced law in the Portland area with prominent firms and was recognized nationally as a distinguished trial lawyer as well as an effective mediator and arbitrator. For many years, he provided pro bono legal services and served as a pro tem judge. In March 2017, he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a member of the Oregon State Bar Association.

Fred proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Portland Center Stage and was Chairman of the Board of the Oregon College of Art and Craft.

Fred admired his father Ernest Hans Aebi, Swiss-born, who established the family's restaurant business in Oregon including the Chalet l' Abbe in Milwaukie. Fred took pride in his heritage and held dual United States and Swiss citizenships.

He is survived by his wife, Mary K. Arnstad and niece, Maren Killackey. He will be missed by his family, many friends and colleagues.

In memory of Fred M. Aebi, donations may be sent to Oregon Shakespeare Festival Education Fund, SMART (Start Making a Reader Today), or Milwaukie High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation.
