Fire destroys garage Sunday in Medford
Fire destroyed a detached garage Sunday in Medford , with flames from the blaze damaging some fencing and parked vehicles, fire officials said.
Medford Fire-Rescue units responded at 11:47 p.m to the fire in the 900 block of Chestnut Street, according to emergency dispatch logs. Crews were on scene by 11:50 p.m., said Battalion Chief Sean Schmidt. The first crews to arrive on scene found a “well involved detached garage,” he added, estimating the size to be about 24-by-24 feet.
A driver was the first to report the flames, Schmidt said. The occupants of the main structure were home at the time. No one was injured.
Four units responded, with crews knocking down the flames in about 14 minutes, Schmidt said. The garage was a total loss, and two vehicles had paint scorched by the heat.
“We had to take down part of (the fencing) to gain access to the back side of the garage,” Schmidt said.
No injuries were reported, and no evacuations of nearby structures were required. The cause of the fire is still investigation.
