Fire at Medford scrap yard casts smoke for miles
A fire Friday at a west Medford vehicle salvage yard cast a column of smoke that was visible for miles.
The fire was reported at 10:55 a.m., at 935 N. Central Ave., according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon records and Medford fire department. Within minutes, the fire billowed dark smoke that could be seen from Central Point.
The fire was contained in less than an hour, with firefighters in the mop-up stage by the time the department posted about the fire at 11:40 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the fire department, and there were no reported injuries.
It was in the same general vicinity as a scrap yard fire reported late last month, according to an earlier news report.
