Rogue River School Board fills vacancy
The Rogue River School Board voted unanimously to fill a long-held vacancy Tuesday night.
Jay Chick, CEO/general manager of Tailholt Coffee Co. Coffee in Rogue River, was named to succeed Rob Hileman, who served from 2011-21, until he moved away from the valley at the start of the school year.
After the board’s Tuesday vote at the end of the meeting, Chick was introduced by board Chairman Bruce Sund, who jokingly referred to the new member as “the bandit in the back.” Chick was wearing a bandanna while seated in the back row of chairs in the small meeting room.
Sund swore Chick into office before he was asked to take a seat for his new appointment. Only then, Sund adorned the meeting, which seemed to amuse Chick.
According to his LinkedIn page, Chick started Tailholt in 2018. The business’s website has a motto: “Life is short, drink good coffee.”
Chick’s LinkedIn page also lists him in coaching positions for basketball and baseball at Rogue River Junior/Senior High School, where he served from 2017-18. He was also a physical education teacher at Woodland Charter School in Murphy.
Chick has also worked for numerous companies, including Apple. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in 2001.
