Let's get factual
Before the layers of blame, speculation and controversy get any deeper, let's get factual about what happened at Jackson and Riverside last Friday night.
A person (apparently already in violation of several laws and his probation) made the decision to drive a Jeep Cherokee into an intersection, against the light, at approximately 95 mph. Whether or not he was being pursued by police really doesn't change that, does it? ' Joe Ward, Shady Cove
Visit a vet
A new generation of proud, young American fighting men and women are serving and sacrificing for freedom around the world. A new generation of veterans is coming to the VA with special needs and challenges that require the hearts and hands of a new generation of VA volunteers.
We invite our community to join us in honoring our veterans and learning more about our volunteer program during the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Feb. 13-19.
You can stop by anytime during National Salute week to visit hospitalized veterans and remind them that their sacrifices have not been forgotten.
Every citizen can make a positive difference in the life of a hospitalized veteran. They can show they care by spending time with veterans during the National Salute. A visit from school children and other community groups does much to lift the spirits of hospitalized veterans. I invite every member of our community to participate. ' Dr. Max E. McIntosh, director, VA SORCC, White City
Ship of fools
The state of the nation, minus the BS: The ship of state has become a ship of fools being plundered and sunk by a bunch of pirates. The most critical problems facing the nation are of Bush's making, so it's not surprising he would use something like Social Security as a weapon of mass distraction.
He plunged the nation into a debt we may never climb out of, selling his country to Saudi Arabia, China and Japan. He promoted the unregulated rape and pillage of our environment and resources by his corporate sponsors. His faulty intelligence resulted in the deadly debacle in Iraq, after his own father warned that only fools would rush in.
Actually electing Bush after the shambles he made of his appointed term brings to mind an old proverb: Whom the gods would destroy they first make crazy. ' Michael Steely, Medford
Look at leaders
Dump Ivins' diatribe. Molly: Take a look at your leaders!
Kennedy tells Attorney General Gonzales that he doesn't think water torture is a good idea. Remember Mary Jo?
Sen. Byrd, former KKK leader, questioned Secretary Rice about honesty and integrity. Wow?.
Howard Dean, head of the DNC? He wants out of Iraq because he doesn't want another Vietnam. Flash! If we leave, it will be. Thousands killed and 1.7 million died in Cambodia after we left. Same in Somalia.
In Iraq, more will die because we leave than if we stay and finish the job. Seems liberals put their politics before life.
In 1998, President Clinton stated, Social Security is in crisis. Did Molly or Democrats question it?
I didn't want to vote for President Bush! I felt we shouldn't have gone into Iraq, but we're there now. We have to stick it out or the dead and wounded will have paid a costly sacrifice for nothing. I do not want them to go through what my generation did.
But who did you offer up? The traitor Kerry (a whole other letter). I would have voted for Joe Lieberman. The choice you gave America was the lesser of two evils. ' Ernest H. Corey Jr., Medford
