Letters to the Editor, June 20
June 21 marks summer solstice, the longest day of the year, It also is the anniversary of the passing of Ric Sayre five years ago.
For those that knew this gentle soul please take a few moments out of your busy lives to remember the spirit that that he shared with everyone that he touched.
Predators and porn
"Crime: Rogue River teacher arrested on sex charges” (Mail Tribune, Wednesday, June 15), reveals contacting underage females for immoral sexual purposes. Even by texting (sexting) or by online chat rooms.
I allude to this in my recent Tuesday, May 17 Klamath Falls Herald and News letter titled: “Sex trafficking, porn: How are they linked?” The number of immoral predatory men here in Southern Oregon and Northern California who perpetrate such offenses remains largely hidden and unknown. Yet, I again pose this question: What major role does pornography or porn play in sex trafficking?
That is a study in itself which demands an answer. Porn kills! Yes indeed, addressed by my two previous letters , “Porn kills” in the Feb. 17 Ashland Daily Tidings and Feb. 20 in the Mail Tribune.
Chris Hansen of Dateline NBC has posted “how to catch a predator.” This along with “The Dangers of Social Media (Child Predator Social Experiment) Girl Edition!” are both available for public online viewing. Remember: “freedom cannot exist apart from morality.”
Again the Bible states: “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach (disgrace) to any people.” — Proverbs 14:34

Time to say 'enough'
Over three people are killed by gun violence every hour of every day and Congress has done nothing but offer "thoughts and prayers" and moments of silence. It's time to say "enough is enough" and tell Congress to: "Do your damned job."
What is required is gun control. What is required is universal, instant background checks for all transfers of firearms and ammunition, whether by sale or gift. Any person on the "no fly list" or subject to any court restraining order or having any mental or emotional problem not cleared by a competent professional, or any convicted felon should be prohibited from possessing a firearm. Any person criminally investigated by law enforcement or FBI must be restricted from possessing a firearm for 48 months.
It should be illegal to possess an AR-15 assault type weapon or a magazine holding more that 10 cartridges. Assault weapons are good only for blowing big holes in things, not for sport or hunting.
The NRA has given our Congressman Greg Walden a Grade "A" for being good and obedient. Walden needs to do what over 90 percent of the people want. Not in fear of the NRA. Walden needs to sponsor gun control legislation. Now! Tell him!
Give Trump a break
Please do not just repeat what someone thinks Trump is saying, listen to him yourself.
There is a prophecy about him exposing corruption in this country, etc. Please give this man a break even if he isn't perfect, or we could be facing a Red Dawn.
