Stop the carnage
Survivors of our latest school massacre are heroes for speaking out. Congressional Republicans are zeroes for once again doing little or nothing to curtail the indiscriminate spread of dangerous weapons. During Trump’s inaugural address he said, “This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.” Not only did he not stop it, he promptly signed a bill making it easier for the mentally ill to buy guns.
The NRA/GOP would have us believe that anybody’s desire to own the tools of mass murder trumps our children’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They’ve been instrumental in flooding the U.S. with weapons designed to rapidly kill a lot of people. Because of their opposition to universal background checks, millions of guns are obtained without one. There’s nothing “well regulated” about this. They’re supporting gun violence, not the Second Amendment.
Having put our children in fear for their lives, they now propose we turn our schools into armed fortresses staffed by teacher/gunslingers. Does anybody seriously believe this is what our Founding Fathers had in mind? Too many lives have been sacrificed so that gun manufacturers can make a killing. Public safety is also a right.
Our democracy is under attack from outside and inside. Putin interferes in our elections and Trump blatantly encourages him on national television. He refuses to sign the sanctions already approved by Congress, while his family and cohorts plot in secret with the Russians.
He appoints people to undermine every department like a pack of termites to do the opposite of the department’s purpose. While he is busy undermining from within he secretly hosts the Russians, barring our press but admitting the Kremlin’s press.
Our government is to serve all our people, not just the rich and white. If you are not a Native American you are an immigrant. My family was Scottish, my husband’s was Norwegian, Trump’s was from Germany. When a government turns on groups of people it does not stop there, individuals end up jailed or dead for protesting.
The most important thing we can do to protect our democracy is stop gerrymandering, voter suppression, the electoral system and unlimited money in our election system. We don’t have a real democracy where every persons vote is counted.
Get out of the way
The un-American forces that run and control the Democratic and Republican parties need to get out of the way and let our president bring back the steel industry to its former glory.
I am a proud American who does not give a rip about the major political parties and the media elites.
Say what you will about Donald Trump, but he does not hate this country like his critics obviously do.
And the award for the lowest rated Oscar awards show ever goes to ... Jimmy Kimmel.
Good going, Jimmy!
