Spring Thaw photo gallery
From the treacherous Catwalk Trail above Ashland to the cozy confines of the Bear Creek Greenway, local athletes and outdoor enthusiasts had plenty to cheer about last weekend.
Ashland was the site of the Spring Thaw Mountain Bike Festival Saturday and Sunday, while the Bear Creek Greenway served as the route Saturday for the Bridge The Gap 5k and 10k runs.
Local photographer Andy Atkinson documented both the runs and the Spring Thaw Downhill Race, and you can see his galleries online at www.OregonOutdoors.com.
Pro rider Jared Hobbs won the downhill bike race in 4:16.65. Pro Anka Martin had the quickest time among women in 4:59.55. Complete results of the Spring Thaw races can be viewed at www.somba.org/springthaw.
On the running side, Crater High track and cross-country coach Justin Loftus won the 5k race with a time of 17:35. Lianna Jenkins was the first female in the race with a time of 20:11. In the 10k event, Neal Olsen won with a time of 34:39. Kierra Huggins was the first female in 42:44. Proceeds from the race, hosted by Southern Oregon Runners, went to Mobility Unlimited.
