Lake Outlook

AGATE - Fishing activity has slowed to a crawl as water levels are down and cold conditions have kept the bass and crappie in lockjaw status. Trout fishing remains slow. Only electric motors are allowed on the lake. No gas-powered motors.

APPLEGATE - Water levels are up but not high enough to allow for access to French Gulch's low-water ramp. Bank fishing effort is light but has been good throughout the day. PowerBait or worms are working best at the lower end of the lake. Anglers can keep up to five rainbow trout or stocked salmon a day, but only one fish can be more than 20 inches long. Also, no bass between 12 and 15 inches can be kept, and only one bass longer than 15 inches can be kept.

EXPO - Fishing for bluegill and other panfish is very slow. Very little effort has been seen here.

EMIGRANT - Trout fishing has tapered way off and was fair amid cold water temperatures. A health advisory has been issued about eating all but trout from the lake because of elevated mercury levels.

FISH - Both bank and boat anglers have done fair recently for trout despite cold weather conditions. Snow is expected this weekend. The Forest Service boat ramp is usable until it becomes blocked by snow.

TENMILE - Largemouth bass fishing has slowed amid a series of cold fronts that have brought snow close to the beach. The bass are moving into deeper waters, especially around structure. Try fishing plastic worms or grubs walked very slowly along the bottom, and watch for very light strikes.

LOST CREEK - A public-health advisory issued in mid-September remains in effect because of a bloom of toxic blue-green algae. People and pets are advised, but not required, to steer clear of the water until further notice.

Very little trout-fishing activity has occurred at the lake since September. Once the advisory gets lifted, look for good rainbow trout catches from bank anglers and slow trollers. Heavy in-flow this week has risen the lake by more than 4 feet.

WILLOW - The resort and boat ramp are closed for the season.

SELMAC - Trout and bass fishing is slow amid cold water conditions.

GARRISON LAKE - Trout fishing is fair to good, and the lake remains fishable despite poor weather conditions. Woolly bugger flies, small spinners and bait all work well for stocked rainbow.
