When the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks a lake with trout, can summer be far behind?
The early worms are catching the fish at Willow Lake, about 8 miles east of Butte Falls in Jackson County.
If trout fishing isn't your game, then try for a good-size bass or crappie.
With the boat ramp now open, anglers are recommending a casual float with bait or worms, although trolling lures or flies will probably be just as effective.
It's best to try in the afternoon, especially as the temperatures begin to warm up.
With 927 acres of recreational activities, including hiking, a swimming beach and camping, Willow Lake is where the young or old outdoor fanatic will feel at home.
The Willow Lake Resort has showers, a store, 29 tent sites and 37 hookups to keep every camper happy.
And for those who'd rather not rough it, try out one of four two-bedroom cabins with a bathroom, shower, living area and direct access to a kitchen.
For the past two summers, high school students have been renting paddle and sailboats by the hour, and they plan to do it again this year.
