Bird contest voting begins Friday

Friday is the deadline to enter the 2009 Oregon Outdoors Wild Bird Photo Contest. Entries must be received by 4 p.m., then online voting will begin at 5 p.m.

As of press time Wednesday, nearly 400 entries had been uploaded to the Mail Tribune's contest Web site at www.mailtribune.com/birdcontest, making this year's contest the biggest by far.

Once voting commences, go online to the Web address above and vote for your three favorite photos. Reader votes will count for 50 percent, and our panel of expert judges will determine the other 50 percent of voting scores.

Grand prize is a Vortex Nomad 20-60x60 (angled) spotting scope from Wild Birds Unlimited. First prize is an Olympus Stylus 1050sw waterproof digital camera from Total Camera and Video. Second prize is a $100 gift certificate from Wild Birds Unlimited.

Online voting will run until 5 p.m. Dec. 18. Winners will be published in Oregon Outdoors on Dec. 24.
