Folk sounds of Quebec

Lisa Ornstein and André Marchand have been playing together ever since they met 30 years ago as fellow members of Québec's premier traditional band, La Bottine Souriante.

The Ashland Folk Club will sponsor a concert by the two friends at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Headwaters, 84 Fourth St., Ashland.

A founder of La Bottine, Marchand has defined Québécois music for the past 30 years with his legendary voice, repertoire of traditional songs and unique guitar accompaniment. Ornstein's fiery fiddling has inspired a generation of Québécois musicians.

Local fiddler Kevin Carr, who has been the tutor coordinator for the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Wash., considers Ornstein to be the finest fiddle player he has ever heard, and Marchand to be equally accomplished as a guitarist.

Admission is $10-$20 sliding scale. Children are admitted free. Call 846-6733.
