Roots & Wings at Avalon

Dennis Freese (clarinet) and Steve Berman (guitar) are duo Roots & Wings and will perform Brazilian choro music at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Avalon Bar and Grill, 105 W. Valley View Road, Talent.

Choro has its roots in the street music in Rio de Janeiro and other urban centers. It became popularin the 1920s and 1930s as a form of Brazilian dance music. The word "choro" is derived from Portuguese "chorar," to weep, suggesting a sort of blues. Like the blues, it coveys a wide range of moods, tempos and rhythms.

Cover for the show is $5.
