Diamonds Under Fire

Influenced by the popular alternative rock of the 1990's, Diamonds Under Fire will bring their original tunes to a three-band concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at Musichead, 350 S. Riverside Ave., Medford

"It's alternative rock, almost grunge with female vocals," said Jym Harris, assistant manager at Musichead and drummer for the band Electronic Buzzard Song.

Diamonds Under Fire's lyrics are similar to Nirvana's and other grunge bands of the 1990s, softened by Vanessa Silberman's voice. Joining Silberman for this performance is Adam Farley on drums and backup vocals. The two musicians combine to create a sound many twenty-somethings grew up listening to, with original music and the guitar distortions that contribute to the grunge sound.

The duo has been touring the West Coast and will travel to California after their Saturday night performance.

Two local bands are set to open for the group Electronic Buzzard Song, based in Medford and Edgar and The Shoes, based in Grants Pass.

Harris says Eric von Radics is the mastermind of Electronic Buzzard Song. He writes the songs and has developed a collection of musicians to play at live events.

"Depending on the show, every show is a different show," Harris said.

He calls the sound Americana "with kind of a classic rock vibe." A touch of country twang can be heard in their songs, with humor in the lyrics and a sound reminiscent of Tom Petty in songs like "Mexican Lebowski." Von Radics is lead vocalist and guitarist and Harris will accompany him on drums and backup vocals for this gig. The rest of the band is being fleshed out.

Edgar and The Shoes is a young band and relative new-comers to the Southern Oregon music scene. Harris describes their music as "Smashing Pumpkins meets Pink Floyd." Aliks Pork, Eric Fuchs and Jaems Workman work through a range of styles that includes vocal harmonies and acoustic music.

All three of the groups have MySpace pages with songs available: Diamonds Under Fire: myspace.com/diamondsunderfire; Electronic Buzzard Song: myspace.com/buzzardsongredux; and Edgar and The Shoes: myspace.com/edgarshoes.

The cost is $5 at the door.
