Shinedown at the Medford Armory

American rock band and Atlantic recording group Shinedown will headline a show Monday, Sept. 21, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway. Openers will include rock bands Sick Puppies, Cavo and Adelitas Way. The concert will start at 7 p.m., and doors will open at 6.

Shinedown is touring on the success of its third gold album, "The Sound of Madness," released in 2008. The album holds the hit single "Second Chance."

Based in Jacksonville, Fla., Shinedown features vocalist Brent Smith, drummer Barry Kerch, guitarist Zach Myers and bassist Eric Bass.

"Second Chance" has been running at the top of mainstream rock charts for more than eight weeks. People magazine recently featured Shinedown, and Entertainment Weekly placed the hit song in its "10 Songs of Summer" playlist — noting that "Every summer needs its shamelessly histrionic big-blast-chorus crossover from the modern rock charts. Shinedown wins this year's prize."

Shinedown performed "Second Chance" on NBC's "The Today Show" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and CBS' "The Early Show Saturday Edition."

The song's video — directed by Ryan Smith (Eminem, Breaking Benjamin) — has been aired heavily on MTV, MTV Hits, MTV2 and VH1.

The title track and another single on Shinedown's 2008 album also went to the top of the charts. The album was produced by Grammy Award-winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day). The album also marks Shinedown's first foray into the international marketplace. The group crossed the Atlantic for a European tour behind the album, performing at festivals such as the Download Festival in England, Rock am Rin and Rock im Park in Germany and Pinkpop in the Netherlands.

"The Sound of Madness" follows two other certified gold albums by Shinedown — "Leave a Whisper" in 2003 and "Us and Them" in 2005. The two latter albums yielded seven hits, including "Fly From the Inside," "45" and "Save Me."
