Rainbow of Hope

Live music will be a new feature at the annual Rainbow of Hope Fishing Tournament to be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at Howard Prairie Lake Resort, 3249 Hyatt Prairie Road, east of Ashland.

Guitarist Craig Chaquico and Gentle Thunder will perform at 7 p.m. at the resort.

Chaquico is best known for his work as lead guitarist and songwriter with Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship from 1973 to 1990. During his time with the band, it recorded dozens of gold and platinum-selling records.

Chaquico began working as a pop and contemporary solo artist and has been at the top of the jazz charts for 20 years.

Gentle Thunder of Mount Shasta will open the show. This solo artist's music encompasses hammer dulcimer, piano and American Indian flute.

Now based in Ashland, Chaquico spends much of his time camping and fishing at Howard Prairie. He and resort owner Joel LaGrande decided to add a live music element to the fishing derby this year.

The event is open to all ages. Anglers must register by 10 a.m. and return for the weigh-in between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Entry fee is $10 for campers, $15 for non-campers.

Tickets to the concert cost $20, $15 for campers, and are available at the resort, at Towne & Country Cleaners in Ashland, Medford and White City and at Mobile Madness in Medford and Grants Pass.

Raffle tickets for a Fender Squier guitar will be available at the resort and at Mobile Madness. Cost is $10 for two tickets.

Half of the fishing derby proceeds and all of the concert proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of the Rogue Valley. Call 541-482-1979 or 541-479-4258.
