Former "American Idol" contestants Lakisha Jones, David Hernandez, Michael Sarver and Alexi Grace will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The up-and-coming stars will present "Celebrate Motown!" a program of megahits by The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five and other soul artists.
The four young celebrities also will perform the songs that launched them onto the national stage, along with selections from their new CDs. Together, the four will perform solos, duets and ensemble pieces under the musical direction of "American Idol's" Michael Orland.
Jones, who now lives in Beverly Hills, Calif., came in fourth during the sixth season of "Idol." She auditioned for the Fox show by singing "Think," by Aretha Franklin. She pulls inspiration for singing from her gospel roots.
Pop singer Hernandez auditioned for the seventh season of "Idol" by singing The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." He placed 12th in the television series' competition. He is from Arizona but now lives in Los Angeles.
Country singer Sarver of Texas was the 10th-place finalist on the eighth season of "Idol." Sarver toured with "American Idols LIVE!" in 2009 and released an album on Universal's Dream Records label in 2010.
Grace was among the top 13 contenders in the eighth season of "Idol."
The four contestants will be on hand for a preshow discussion from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday. Hear their backstage stories, tips for auditions and other inside information about auditioning for "Idol." The discussion is open to ticket holders only.
