Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers
A former teacher and ranch hand, Nicki Bluhm was accidentally discovered one New Years Eve when musician and producer Tim Bluhm, who is now Nicki's husband, heard her sing a blues song. Tim Bluhm was impressed and encouraged Nicki to begin writing music and singing in public, on purpose. Now Nicki Bluhm fronts a full band, The Gramblers, featuring her husband, guitarist Deren Ney and Dave Mulligan, bassist Steve Adams and drummer Mike Curry.
Based out of San Francisco, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Applegate Lodge, 15100 Highway 238.
Bluhm released her sophomore album, "Driftwood," in February. The Americana album is said to reflect the influence of country icons such as Merle Haggard, Linda Ronstadt and Johnny and June Cash. The album garnered praise from San Francisco Chronicle, Jambase and No Depression magazine, which says: "Part Karen Carpenter and Part Grace Slick, Bluhm's voice moves effortlessly between softer, country tinged balladry and retro 60's/70's rock."
Cover to Bluhm's show at the lodge is $10. Oakland, California, duo Chris Chandler and Paul Benoit will open the show. Call 541-761-9353 or visit www.nickibluhm.com.
