'Sounds of the Season'
Rogue Valley Symphony's holiday concert will take its audiences on a musical journey through Europe's capital cities. "Sounds of the Season" will include French composer Michel-Richard de Lalande's Christmas Symphony, English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on "Greensleeves," Italian composer Arcangelo Corelli's concerto grosso "Made for the Night of Christmas," along with "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" from Austrian composer Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera "Orfeo and Euridice."
The concerts will include a smaller chamber orchestra and brass carols in an intimate church setting. Highlights include violist Kimberly Fitch performing the solo in Czech composer Carl Philipp Stamitz's Viola Concerto in D major, No. 1. Fitch holds a master's degree in viola performance from the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she won the Concerto Soloists Competition with her performance of Bela Bartok's Viola Concerto with the university's symphony orchestra.
Maestro Martin Majkut with lead Rogue Valley Symphony from the harpsichord, and the concert will conclude with an old-fashioned, holiday sing-along with the symphony's brass ensemble.
