Rogue Valley Symphony: The Rogue Valley Symphony, directed by Martin Majkut, will premiere its newly commissioned composition by Rogue Valley composer Ethan Gans-Morse, “How Can You Own the Sky?” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford, and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Grants Pass Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. Gans-Morse’s symphonic poem honors native wisdom and features poetry by Tiziana DellaRovere, read by Brent Florendo. The program also includes Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, highlighted by soprano Melinda Whittington, mezzo-soprano Rebecca Ringle, tenor Brian Thorsett and baritone Christopheren Nomura, along with the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers and the Rogue Valley Chorale. Majkut will offer talks one hour before each show. Tickets range from $20 to $53 for the Medford shows and $20 to $48 for the Grants Pass show. Tickets are $15 for age 6-22 at all shows. Elias Alexander: Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Elias Alexander and his band — guitarist Paul Turnipseed, bassist Garret Baxter, keyboard player Ady Bell, vocalist Sabrina Valenzuela and drummer Matthew Kriemelman — will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. An Ashland native, Alexander is known for Americana and Celtic music. Stars on Stage: “Stars on Stage, Celebrating State Soloists” will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The program will feature 14 soloists from Jackson County who have been first-place winners at the district musical festival. They will perform at the state solo contest on April 28. The students are from high schools in Ashland, Phoenix, Central Point and Medford. There will be vocalists, percussionists, brass, woodwinds, string bass and piano. The performance is free.

The Lasses and Kathryn Claire: Amsterdam folk duo The Lasses and Portland musician Kathryn Claire will perform songs from Celtic and American traditions at 7 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Grizzly Peak Winery, 1600 E.
