Brava! Opera: “Hansel and Gretel,” composed by Engelbert Humperdinck, will be presented by Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the Mountain Avenue Theater, 201 S. Mountain Ave., on the Ashland High School campus. The fully-staged fairy tale opera will be performed in English and directed by Willene Gunn with Conductor Martin Majkut. Rogue Valley Chorale: The Rogue Valley Chorale will present a concert, “Ethereal Moments,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The concert features the world premiere of “Origin of the Songs,” written by renowned film and television composer Joseph Julian Gonzalez. The music is based on the ancient Aztec poems that speaks of the Flower World, a mystical place of immense spiritual awareness that honors nature’s beauty. Composer Gonzalez will present a pre-concert talk about “Origin of the Songs” and his inspiration for the composition one hour before each concert. A tuneful, poignant, hilarious look at the travails of competition.
