‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’: This Tony Award-winning charmer takes place in a middle school gymnasium, where a handful of puberty-plagued nerds and brainiacs — overseen by grown-ups only marginally more developed — contends for the prize of the top speller in the county. A tuneful, poignant, hilarious look at the travails of competition. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturday, March 29-30 and April 5, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford.
