‘The Best of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’: Vocalist Kurt Bernhardt and pianist Jennifer Schloming will present songs by composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Temple Emek Shalom, 1800 E. Main St., Ashland. The Bacharach-David duo is known for such classic songs as “Walk on By, ”(They Long to Be) Close to You,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?,” “Alfie,” “The Look of Love” and “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” A wine and dessert reception will follow the concert. Southern Oregon Repertory Singers: Southern Oregon Repertory Singers will present “She Walks in Beauty,” the opening concert of their 2019-20 season, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., on the Southern Oregon University campus in Ashland. The over 50-voice choir, under the direction of Paul French, will be accompanied by a small orchestra. Featured works include E?riks Es?envalds’ “A Drop in the Ocean” and Eric Whitacre’s sensuous settings of Octavia Paz poetry, plus pieces by Heinrich Schu?tz, Brahms, Paul Mealor, and folksongs from around the world. Musicologist Ed Wight will give a free lecture on the composers and the pieces to be performed one hour before each performance in Room 132 of the Music Recital Hall building. Three Rivers Community Orchestra: The TRCO, directed by Joe Green, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Newman United Methodist Church, 132 N. E. B St., Grants Pass. The orchestra’s program will include Handel’s “Music for the Royal Fireworks,” Mozart’s “Don Giovanni Overture,” Beethovan’s “Egmont Overture,” as well as music from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Downton Abbey” and more.
