Subject: Alec Rosenthal Runs the San Francisco Marathon To The Ashland Tidings Newsroom, Just thought this might be of interest to your readers: Alec Rosenthal, 19, a recent resident of Ashland and 2008 Brookings Harbor High School graduate and current sophomore at Oregon Tech, completed the 26.2 mile run in San Francisco on Sunday, July 26. He competed along with over 20,000 other runners and placed 727th overall with a time of 3 hours 41 minutes and 40 seconds. His average speed was between 9.01 and 8.28 miles per hour. The course started and finished on the embarcadero beside the Bay Bridge, over the Golden Gate Bridge (of which 3 lanes of traffic were blocked for the runners), through Golden Gate Park, the Haight Ashbury District, and past the S.F. Giants' AT & T Park, to name a few of the sights. Rosenthal trained all summer for the race which was his very first marathon. He competed on the Brookings Harbor Bruins Cross Country team during the years 2004-2008 and most recently trained during the summer for the marathon, running all over Ashland, familiarizing himself with his new community.
