Pirates place fourth at Wolfpack Invite

REDDING, Calif. — The Phoenix High boys golf team wasn't on top of its game like it wanted to be, but the Pirates still took fourth place out of 18 schools at the Shasta Wolfpack Invitational at Gold Hills Golf Club on Monday.

J.T. Compher carded a team-best 3-over par 75 for the Pirates. Daniel Engle shot an 80 and Sam Howell had an 81 for Phoenix, which totaled 407 strokes.

"The boys were not happy with that score," said Phoenix coach Kyle Walker. "We know we can play better."

Murky fairway conditions were no obstacle for Grant Rappleye of Sacramento-based Christian Brothers High.

Rappleye took medalist honors with a 68 and his brother, Cameron, shot even-par 72 to lead Christian Brothers to first place.

Ashland, which finished in sixth place, received a 78 from Austin Harfst.

Calen Nicholson had a 79 for Grants Pass, which placed ninth.

Mike Hagert and Trevor Lopez each carded 83s for Eagle Point and Chris Henry penciled in an 86 for Henley.

Zach Uhles scored 89 for Crater, which finished in last place.
