Tornado blows by Ashland in five innings

North Medford pounded out 13 hits and scored nine runs over the first three innings during an 11-1 rout in five innings of Ashland in nonconference baseball Thursday at North Medford High.

The top-ranked Black Tornado (10-0) took advantage of an Ashland error to score four runs in the first inning. Andrew Jones, Kody Stevens, Aaron Marlia and Zack Earle each had RBIs in the frame.

Jones tossed a three-hitter to move to 3-0 on the season.

Marlia went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead North. Jones and Odom each went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Jordan Bostwick was 2-for-4 with three runs.

Ashland (6-4) scored its lone run in the fourth inning when Justin Meza slapped an RBI double.

The Black Tornado wraps up nonleague play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against Phoenix.

The Grizzlies will open Southern Sky Conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader at home against Crater.

Softball

U EAGLE POINT JV 10-8, PHOENIX 1-6 — At Eagle Point, the Eagle Point JV swept Phoenix in a nonconference doubleheader.

In the first game, EP's Jordan Skogseth went 2-for-2 and scored two runs, while Shayanne Jones went 2-for-3 and had a double. Keyonna Kayser had two hits and two RBIs.

In the second game, the Eagles' Ashley Josephson hit a home run, had two hits, two RBIs, held the Pirates to five hits and had four strikeouts.

MacKenzie Welburn and Courtney Storey each had a double in the second game for Phoenix.

U NORTH MEDFORD 5, ASHLAND 3 — At Ashland, North Medford claimed wins in the No. 1 and 2 spots for both singles and doubles to get the nonleague win over Ashland.

Michael Tribble won for North in the top singles game, while Tanner Borg and David Longmire led the way in doubles.

Jeff Laskos and Andrew Cataldo helped keep the Black Tornado from getting the sweep by getting a close win for Ashland (2-2) in the No. 3 doubles.
