Keyser posts state-best time

ROSEBURG — Crater's Jake Keyser and sophomore Piper Delaney of South Medford turned in big performances at the Jim Robinson Twilight Invitational at Finlay Field Friday.

Jake Keyser pulled away from Elliot Jantzer of Phoenix and teammate Ryan Santana to win the 3,000 meter race with a state-best time of 8 minutes, 51.85 seconds.

After the first mile, Keyser, Jantzer and Santana broke away from the pack. Keyser was timed at 56 second on the last lap.

"I think (Keyser) was a little challenged tonight," Crater coach Justin Loftus said. "They didn't go out that fast, but what he showed in the second mile was his strength and speed."

Delaney won the 1,500 (4:57.44) and the 3,000 (11:00.09).

South Medford also received a pair of individual wins from thrower Andrea Herman, who captured the shot put and discus.

Dustin Parish of Grants Pass went under the 50-second mark in the 400 with a 49.68 win.

In the boys 800, South Medford's Joe Nelson out-leaned Jerrod Puckett of Crater at the finish to pick up the victory. Nelson's mark was 2:00.18 to 2:00.79 for Puckett.
