Challengers romp past sloppy Crusaders

Cascade Christian made quick work of rival St. Mary's on Saturday to stay unbeaten in District 4 baseball.

The Challengers (15-2, 12-0 Dist. 4) pounded out 24 hits over both games of a doubleheader and took advantage of eight errors by the Crusaders in the opener to cruise to wins of 16-6 and 13-3.

Pitcher Aaron Grissom improved to 5-0 with the win in Game 1 and contributed a two-run home run in Game 2. Fellow hurler Jeremy Cheney upped his mark to 4-0 after giving up just three hits in the five-inning nightcap.

Travis Wolf went 7-for-9 over both games, while Ryder West was 4-for-5.

In Game 2, Cascade Christian erupted for 11 runs on seven hits in the third inning.

Jordan Banks was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Brian Thomas 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Brandon Hauser 2-for-3.

Josh Davis led the Challengers' attack in the opener with three hits, three RBIs and four runs. Ryan Pech and Wes Litton each added two hits.

Paul Hume was 3-for-3 with two runs to lead St. Mary's (7-9, 6-5) in Game 1. Teammate Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 and Taylor Hocker added a two-run single in the fifth inning.

BUTTE FALLS-PROSPECT 8-14, LOST RIVER 6-6 — At Butte Falls, Butte Falls-Prospect scored its first District 4 sweep of the season, improving the Loggers to 3-15 overall and 3-10 in league.

In Game 1, Dakota Gordon and Josh Sutfin each had two hits and contributed RBIs in a three-run sixth inning. Pitcher Cody Myers gave up six hits, struck out 10 and walked three.

In Game 2, Joey Knighton was 3-for-4 with three runs, and Gordon had two hits, including an RBI double.

Skyline Conference

PHOENIX 22-17, NORTH VALLEY 0-4 — At Merlin, Codey Barrett's monster afternoon propelled Phoenix to a sweep over North Valley in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.

Barrett drove in seven runs on the day while hitting 6-for-8 and Kory Locken bashed a grand slam in the third inning of Game 1 to highlight the eight-run frame.

In Game 1, Mike Shepherd went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs for Phoenix (15-5, 7-2 Skyline), while Dustin Smith was 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

The Pirates' Neil Emerson, who improved to 2-0 from the mound, turned in a no-hitter through three innings in the opener and punched out six.

Rogue River's only hit in the first game came on Brendan Schoner's fourth-inning single.

Dane Hoppe, who had three hits in Game 1, blasted a two-run homer in the first inning of Game 2.

Rogue River (9-11, 2-7) scored in the first inning of Game 2 when Schoner singled, moved to second and third on a passed ball and wild pitch and scored on a ground out.

Matt Stewart went 5-for-7 and Evan Shahan was 4-for-9 with five RBIs overall for the Mustangs (10-6, 7-2 Skyline).

Ryan Hayden struck out five while giving up just two hits in three innings in the opener for Hidden Valley. He also added three hits.
