Crater, North teams fare well at regional

BOISE, Idaho — The Class 5A state-champion Crater boys and girls and the North Medford boys were among a select group of high school cross country teams to participate in the Nike Team National Northwest Regional meet at Eagle Island State Park Saturday.

Seventeen boys teams from five states competed in the 5,000-meter run. Crater placed fifth, while North Medford tied for 11th with Jesuit of Portland.

North Medford senior Josh Paul was the top local finisher. Paul placed ninth with a time of 16 minutes, 10 seconds.

Crater senior Ryan Santana was 18th (16:23), followed by teammates Zach Elliott (21st, 16:23), a junior, and senior Wyatt Rice-Narusch (22nd, 16:24).

Black Tornado sophomore Drew Jordan finished 28th (16:28).

The Comet girls finished sixth out of 13 teams. Junior Kayleigh Tyerman topped the Crater performances with a 24th place (19:28), while junior Silver Seibert finished 33rd (19:40) and senior Riley Swanson came in one place behind (19:41).

"It shows the quality of the distance running in our valley right now," said North Medford coach Pete Voskes. "With all these schools throughout the Northwest, there were two from our valley."
