Four goals each by MacDonald, Small pace Panthers

Zack MacDonald and Wyatt Small scored four goals apiece for South Medford as the Panthers cruised past Crater 12-4 in Southern League hockey at The RRRink Saturday.

Samantha Andrews added two goals for South Medford, while Jed Rennels and Dane Irving completed the Panthers' scoring.

Crater received two goals from Bryce Crawford and got one goal apiece from Tate Stevens and Mitch Fuller.

South starting goalie John Adamson recorded 10 saves and Brandon Andrews had three saves on five shots.

Alec Williamson had 18 saves in net for the Comets.

NORTH MEDFORD 3, KLAMATH FALLS 2 — At Klamath Falls, freshman Cody Chiverton scored two goals and added one assist for North Medford.

Trevor Heinsohn scored North's first goal and assisted on Chiverton's second goal, which proved to be the game-winner.

North Medford had 46 shots on goal, while Black Tornado goalie Stephen Cole recorded six saves on just nine shots by Klamath Falls.

ASHLAND 6, EUGENE 0 — Lewis Sebrell and Stephan McLaughlin each tallied hat tricks to carry Ashland over Eugene at The RRRink.

Sebrell, who scored six goals in the Grizzlies' opener Wednesday against Crater, struck for Ashland's first two goals in the opening period. Casey Skolnik assisted on both.

McLaughlin's goal off an assist from Cory Hultz gave the Grizzlies a 3-0 first-period lead.

After a scoreless second frame, McLaughlin scored back-to-back unassisted goals in the final period. Sebrell completed the scoring off a Josh McLaughlin assist.

Kyle Smelcer recorded 23 saves to post the shutout in goal.

HIDDEN VALLEY TOURNAMENT — At Murphy, Crater won the eight-school tournament with 209 points.

Cascade Christian's highest placers were a third-place showing by Nik Bieter at 215 and fourth-place efforts from Derek Brite (189) and James Humphries (285).

TEAM SCORES — Crater 209, South Umpqua 190, North Valley 133, Hidden Valley 132, Bainbridge, Wash., 120, Ashland 88, Cascade Christian 60, Rogue River 35.

BATTLE OF THE BORDER — At Crescent City, Calif., Illinois Valley took home the team title at the Battle of the Border wrestling tournament hosted by Del Norte High School. The tournament featured 12 teams from Southern Oregon and Northern California.

North Medford finished third behind Illinois Valley and Brookings-Harbor.

The Black Tornado was led by individual champions Jessie Hornbrook (140 pounds), Mark Dickison (160) and Robert Ross (275).
