Crusaders get defensive, take down Bonanza

While the offense may have been lacking, St. Mary's more than made up for it on the defense Thursday night in a 48-25 triumph over Bonanza at St. Mary's High.

Max O'Sullivan nabbed five of the Crusaders' 15 steals and added nine points as St. Mary's slowly but surely pulled away from the Antlers in Southern Cascade League play.

"We knew we wanted to put a lot of pressure on them and we did a good job of that," said St. Mary's coach Rick Jackson, noting Bonanza has had to replace much of a lineup that led it to a share of the SCL title last year.

"They had a tough time getting into their offense and getting any offensive continuity established," added Jackson. "Unfortunately, we didn't do a great job offensively either. We missed a lot of easy looks and didn't convert on some fastbreak opportunities that we should have."

Alex Street added eight points and Andrew Larson had seven points and five rebounds for St. Mary's (9-5, 3-0 SCL).

Daniel Clark scored 10 points to lead Bonanza, which scored six points or less in all but one quarter.
