GP swimmers sweep North

The Grants Pass boys and girls swim teams defeated North Medford's boys and girls on Tuesday at Grants Pass.

The Cavemen boys won 85-80 while the girls won 106-64.

The Black Tornado boys won four events. Josh Silver won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 22:67, edging Grants Pass' Sean Connelley (26:32). Cameron Davis took first in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 59:89, ahead of teammate Marcos Chavez (1:00:61).

Kyle Wehage earned the victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:44:48 and North's 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Mike Hill, Ryan Carson, Wehage and Silver took first. Grants Pass' Matt Lansing won two events — the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke — and teammate Killian Maxwell won the 200 individual medley as well as the 100 breaststroke. Killian and Lansing were also members of the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams that took first.

Michelle Sanderson took first for the North girls in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28:50, ahead of Grants Pass' Madison Voris, who finished in 28:76.

Tessa Houck swam the 100 fly in 1:06:29 to take first and Houck also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09:60. Grants Pass' Ivory Wheeler (100 and 200 freestyle) and Dani Manzanares (500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke) won two events each.

Girls Basketball

EAGLE POINT JV 47, BUTTE FALLS 46 OT — At Eagle Point, Karlee Stephens made three of four free throws to send the game to overtime and then had free throws late in the game to give the Eagle Point JV team the lead and eventual victory in the exhibition game.

Stephens had 18 points and teammate Hannah Mason had 12. Butte Falls' Felicia Ferguson had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Karlee Stephenson had 12 points and nine steals.

NORTH MEDFORD 7, KLAMATH FALLS 4 — At Klamath Falls, Jared McClure had two first-period goals to give North Medford the lead and Cody Shiverton scored two goals in the third period to keep the Black Tornado in front for good.

Ryan Brousseau had a goal in the second period and two assists. Shiverton also had two assists. Matt McClure and Taylor Covey each added goals in the third period.

Klamath Falls, down 3-1 after a late goal by Carter Mast in the second period, added three goals in the third period. Zack Brown, Phil Godko and Lou Macias each scored for Klamath Falls.

Stephen Cole had 25 saves for North and Alex Young stopped 21 shots for Klamath Falls.

CRATER FORFEITS AGAINST SOUTH MEDFORD — Crater was forced to forfeit its game against South Medford at The RRRink due to the absence of one of its players.

The two squads played a friendly match with South Medford winning 8-2.
