No. 5-ranked Cascade Christian keeps rolling in Sunset League

Senior night for Cascade Christian went about the way every night unfolds for the fifth-ranked Challengers these days.

Cascade Christian (22-2, 11-0 Sunset) took a comfortable early lead, rested its starters in the fourth and sent its five seniors out winners with a 64-36 Sunset League victory over struggling Reedsport at The Pavilion on Tuesday.

Senior Jeremy Cheney scored 12 points for the Challengers and junior wing Scott Morse added 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Cascade Christian led 36-18 at the break and 58-23 after three quarters.

The Challengers have won 11 in a row with one more league game remaining — Thursday at Myrtle Point. Cascade Christian then will play in the Sunset League tournament beginning on Feb. 15.

"We're just trying to get some momentum to get us going," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. "Right now we are kind of going through the motions. We need a spark to get us going. I'm worried we will not do well in the playoffs because we have not really been pushed that hard. We'll get them going next week."

Cascade Christian seniors included Jake Ayala, who scored four points; Justin Duchien, who added three; Shane Pech, who finished with four; and Micah Johnson, who did not score.

It was the first action of the season for Pech and Johnson.

"They are kind of the crowd favorites," coach Morse said of Pech and Johnson. "It was definitely a fun evening. It was a packed house to celebrate the seniors. It was good to go out with a win."

Junior guard Sean Horton led Reedsport (7-15, 1-10 Sunset) with 10 points.
