Heinsohn records hat trick for North

Trevor Heinsohn and Ryan Brousseau accounted for five goals as North Medford skated past Crater 8-1 in Southern League hockey action at The RRRink Wednesday.

Heinsohn, Brousseau and Sierra Chiverton each had one goal in the first period as the Black Tornado jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Heinsohn accomplished his hat trick in the second stanza with two more goals. Heinsohn also had two assists in the game.

Brousseau finished with two goals and two assists.

Jared McClure had a goal and an assist for North and Taylor Covey accounted for the Black Tornado's final goal.

Cody Chiverton had three assists and Matt McClure and Alex Huff had one assist apiece.

Cameron Hodnefield scored Crater's goal off an assist from Bryce Crawford in the second period.

North goalie Stephen Cole stopped 24 shots, while Alec Williamson had 14 saves in net for the Comets.

Boys Basketball

HENLEY 70, ILLINOIS VALLEY 25 — At Merrill, Austin Lesueur scored a game-high 19 points to lead four Henley players in double figures in a game played at Lost River High because of structural damage to the Henley gym caused by snow.

Lesueur added seven rebounds and three assists.

The seventh-ranked Hornets (15-4, 8-2 Skyline) jumped out to a 22-4 first-quarter lead and stretched the margin to 39-7 at halftime.

Henley senior guard Mike D'Olivo contributed 15 points and 11 assists.

The Hornets outrebounded Illinois Valley, 37-21, with Steven Wedan ripping down 11 for Henley.

Steven Paul scored a team-best 10 points for Illinois Valley (11-9, 5-6 Skyline).

HENLEY 53, ILLINOIS VALLEY 17 — At Cave Junction, Henley held struggling Illinois Valley scoreless in the second quarter and rolled to the Skyline Conference victory.

Taylor Wallace scored 16 and Sierra Patzke added 10 for Henley (15-5, 8-2 Skyline).

Leilani Tausaga and Raesha Yeoman each scored four for Illinois Valley (0-20, 0-11 Skyline).

MAZAMA 54, EAGLE POINT 41 — At Eagle Point, Mazama's third-quarter pressure created turnovers and easy scoring opportunities, leading to the Southern Sky Conference victory.

Kelsey McPhee scored 13 points, Melissa Jones scored 12 and Lacey Garrett added 11 for Mazama (9-7, 4-3 SSC), which outscored Eagle Point 18-4 in the third.

Taylor Hagy led the Eagles (4-16, 1-8 SSC) with 12 points and seven rebounds. Erin Hedrick managed five points and five rebounds.
