St. Mary's runner-up for second straight year

REDMOND — St. Mary's shot a school-record team score of 335 on the second day of the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A girls golf championships at the Eagle Crest Ridge Course on Tuesday and matched a runner-up finish from a year ago.

Class 4A Sisters, paced by co-medalist Lindsay Reeve, won the team title with a 678 stroke total. St. Mary's, which began the day in third place, shot a 696.

The 2A Crusaders' score on Tuesday was the low of any team. St. Mary's began the day 21 strokes behind leader Sisters and three strokes shy of second-place Gladstone. The Crusaders ended up 37 strokes ahead of third-place Molalla.

"We closed the gap a little bit, but not enough to catch Sisters," St. Mary's coach James Joy said.

Aubrie Street was the top Crusader individual. The sophomore finished in fourth place, 21-over par (165).

"Our Nos. 2, 3 and 4 players improved quite a lot," Joy said.

While Street's 85 was five shots higher than her first round, freshman Cassandra Carothers and seniors Whitney Adderson and Laura Thompson posted much lower scores the second day.

Carothers (81) and Thompson (84) were each 12 strokes better on their second round, while Adderson (85) came in seven strokes under.

North Valley senior Ariel Huff finished eighth overall (169) participating as an individual.
