Phoenix wrestlers defeat Hidden Valley

MURPHY — Phoenix picked up all but one of its wins by fall or forfeit en route to a 58-24 victory over Hidden Valley in a Skyline Conference wrestling dual Wednesday.

The Pirates registered seven pins to go with three forfeit victories.

Jason Adams' 15-6 decision over Hidden Valley's Grayson Back at 130 was the only match that went the distance.

Kaleb Glanz (112), Ryan Tourville (140) and Gleavar Belvea all posted first-round pins for the Pirates. Glanz had the quickest fall, in just 44 seconds against Steven Zelenka.

ILLINOIS VALLEY 61, NORTH VALLEY 18 — At Cave Junction, five-time defending Skyline Conference champion Illinois Valley posted six pins the the league dual.

Illinois Valley returning state champion Sam Winter (145) and state fourth-place finisher Lance Tausaga (215) had strong performances with victories by fall.

Senior Landy Wells, a first-year transfer from Chiloquin, won a 6-0 decision against Trevor Terry at 171.

CRATER 7, KLAMATH FALLS 5 — At Klamath Falls, Crater rallied from a two-goal deficit with four goals in the third period.

Bryce Crawford scored four goals for the Comets, including the go-ahead score at the 11:15 mark of the final period.

Crater trailed 5-3 entering the third period. Jake Randoc scored off an assist from Cody Martin just over one minute into the stanza to pull the Comets to within one. Then Martin scored off a Randoc assist about six minutes later to knot the score 5-5. After Crawford put Crater ahead for the first time since the opening period, Martin tallied the final goal.

Crater goaltender Lucas Paulsen recorded 31 saves, while Damien Pulley had 17 for the Ice Hawks.

ASHLAND SWEEPS — At Ashland, Ashland went undefeated in the Southern Sky three-way meet at Southern Oregon University's McNeal Pavillion.

Ashland girls defeated Klamath Union, 133-78, and Crater, 112-92. Crater took down Klamath Union 104-98.

For the boys, Ashland beat Klamath Union 144-72 and won against Crater 129-60. Klamath Union edged out Crater, 100-93.

Anya Martinez snagged four first place finishes for the Crater girls. Martinez won the 200 individual medley, the 100 breaststroke, and was part of both the medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Ashland's Bree Powers placed first in the 50 freestyle.

In boys, Crater's John Melbo defeated Ashland's Troy Robinson for first in a tight 100 backstroke race. Robinson registered wins in 200 individual medley and was part of the Grizzly victorious 400 relay team.

Ashland's Lucas Opgenorth finished first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 50 freestyle.
