Phoenix falls to Henley

KLAMATH FALLS — For one stretch, the Phoenix girls basketball team seemed poise to overcome its slow start.

But in another, the Pirates (12-3, 2-1 Skyline) reverted to old form and it equated to a 48-41 loss to Henley on Friday night.

Henley led 11-0 early in the game, but Phoenix responded with 19 points in the second quarter and took a seven-point lead in the third quarter.

But midway through the third, the Pirates missed nine consecutive shots and had three of their 12 turnovers as Henley regained control.

"We just went flat," Phoenix coach Randy Kirkland said.

Taylor Wallace led Henley with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Cori Wallace added 13.

The Pirates' Kelsey George had 13 points and Danielle Smith scored 10, including seven in the second quarter. Phoenix led 26-24 at the half after solving its first-quarter rebounding woes. The Pirates allowed seven offensive rebounds in the first quarter and 14 in the game.
