Powers triumphs in shortened tournament

Sunshine Powers of North Medford High posted the low score of the day in a Southwest Conference girls golf tournament at Rogue Valley Country Club Monday that was shortened from 18 holes to nine because of miserable conditions.

In whipping winds and driving rain, Powers shot a front-nine score of 40 to lead the event. She leads the SWC with an 80.5 stroke average.

Black Tornado teammate Abby Mann finished second with a 43 as North Medford posted the low number in the five-team event with a 186.

Ryann Cuthbertson carded a 54 and Marie Cox a 55 to pace South Medford, which finished with a 247.
