Jantzer secures another district title

KLAMATH FALLS — Phoenix distance runner Elliott Jantzer added yet another title to his already impressive resume on Friday afternoon, with the senior cruising to victory in the 3,000 meters at the Skyline Conference district meet.

Jantzer won going away in a time of 8 minutes, 54.07 seconds on Friday, conserving some energy for today's action at the Oregon Tech track.

Buoyed by Jantzer's effort, and a sixth-place showing by Matt Lapat in the long jump of 19 feet, 6 inches, the Pirate boys totaled 17 points on the first day of action.

Hidden Valley took the boys lead with a score of 68 points behind first-place efforts from Patrick Bailey (pole vault), Singeon Gotfried (high jump) and Jefferson Jarvis (discus).

In Skyline girls action, Phoenix teammates Kayla Heath and Sarah Hagy finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,000. Heath crossed in 12:04.16, with Hagy at 12:11.02. Henley's Taylor Wallace won with a time of 10:22.43.

Phoenix's Marie Kempf placed among the top six in a pair of field events. The sophomore finished fourth in the javelin (100-7) and sixth in the shot put (29-4).
