Crater cruises to win over Henley in nonconference
KLAMATH FALLS — Seeking a tune-up as it waits for the Class 5A baseball state playoffs to begin, Crater was clicking on all cylinders Wednesday afternoon against Class 4A Henley.
The Comets pounded out 13 hits and limited the Hornets throughout the contest to earn a 6-1 nonconference victory.
Bryce Crawford's two-run home run pushed Crater's lead to 3-0 in the second inning, and Andrew Tracy put the finishing touches on the game with a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh.
Craig Kathol, Justen Morgan and Bruce Sanford combined on the mound to allow only five hits and both teams played error-free baseball.
Christian Massey, Sanford, Derek Cartwright and Corey Wynant each had two hits for Crater, which opens the state playoffs at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Albany. The Comets (17-10) are the No. 2 seed out of the Southern Sky Conference.
