Seniors Johnson, Boyd spark North Medford

A pair of seniors had breakout performances to lead North Medford to its first Southwest Conference victory of the season.

Senior outside hitter Hillevi Johnson tallied 19 kills and 41 passes — with only two errors — and fellow senior Danielle Boyd had 15 kills, 21 assists, 10 digs and four aces to guide the Black Tornado to a 25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12 victory against visiting Grants Pass on Thursday.

Junior libero Logan Hagey added 17 digs for the Black Tornado, which improved to 1-2 in conference.

  • SOUTH EUGENE 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 0 — At Eugene, Madi Sash had a team-high five kills and Samantha Owirka added a team-best eight assists in South Medford's 25-9, 25-16, 25-18 loss in the Southwest Conference match.
  • SHELDON 3, ROSEBURG 1 — At Roseburg, Gabbi Parker's 30 kills propelled Sheldon to a 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22 victory.

For Roseburg, Devan Belshe had 16 kills and Vanessa Bentley contributed 25 assists.

Southern Sky Conference

ASHLAND 3, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Eagle Point, Eagle Point had no answer for Nikki Small on the front line as Ashland posted a 25-13, 25-18, 25-16 victory.

Small, a senior middle, slammed 18 kills. Setter Callie McCoy distributed 27 assists for the Grizzlies (5-3, 2-0 SSC).

Kristin Wyatt and Christine McCready each had six kills for the Eagles (2-5, 0-1 SSC). McCready, a sophomore middle, also had four blocks.

KLAMATH UNION 3, MAZAMA 1 — At Klamath Falls, Klamath Union posted a 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 victory.

Skyline Conference

HIDDEN VALLEY 3, PHOENIX 0 — At Phoenix, Annika Pond had six digs, and Megan Cheyene and Kelsie Bradfield each recorded five kills in Phoenix's (1-1) loss to Hidden Valley, 25-13, 25-17, 25-18.

Sunset Conference

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, REEDSPORT 0 — Cascade Christian played well defensively and served tough in posting a 25-9, 25-11, 25-18 victory.

Senior outside Becca Sellers had 18 kills and five aces for the Challengers (6-0 Sunset).

Cascade setter Breanna Holtz had 31 assists and served three aces. L ibero Nikki Jones excelled defensively with 10 digs.

ROGUE RIVER 3, GOLD BEACH 1 — At Gold Beach, Jesse Sondag had 12 kills, two blocks and 11 digs to lead Rogue River to a 26-24, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18 win.

Alli Ehrhardt had eight blocks, seven kills and seven digs for the Chiefs (4-4, 3-3 Sunset).
