Brown's two goals boost Rogue River to win

ROGUE RIVER — Justin Brown continued his torrid pace for the Rogue River boys soccer team.

The senior striker and team co-captain scored two goals in a 3-0 District 3 victory over Hosanna Christian Saturday, giving him 14 scores in only six games.

The Chieftains are 3-3 overall and in league.

James Fimbres put Rogue River on the scoreboard first, scoring in the 32nd minute. It stayed that way until Brown broke free for tallies in the 41st and 45th minutes.

Dustin Krouse, another senior striker, was close to goals on a couple of occasions, said Chieftains coach Chad Fricke, including a nifty header that was stopped by the keeper.

Rogue River goalie Tyler Donahue recorded the shutout.

ST. MARY'S 13, GOLD BEACH 0 — At Gold Beach, Lou Arne had three goals and three assists to lead the District 3 rout for St. Mary's (6-1, 5-1 Dist. 3).

The Crusaders led 7-0 at halftime.

St. Mary's also got two goals each from Jesus Aruno, Garrett Coughlin and Noah Kotler; one goal and two assists from Reid Arne and a goal and an assist from A.J. Leep.

SWC Boys

SOUTH MEDFORD 2, SHELDON 0 — Jaine Ivarra and Kory Kellum each scored to guide host South Medford to the Southwest Conference win.

Brian Avila had an assist on each goal and Jorge Ruiz recorded his second shutout of the season for the Panthers (6-1, 3-0 SWC).

SSC Boys

ASHLAND 1, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Ashland, Chris Landt took a cross from Zach Hartman and scored in the 58th minute for Ashland in the Southern Sky Conference game.

Eagle Point used a bunker-style defense, sitting back and allowing the Grizzlies to shoot away, but Ashland couldn't take advantage. The Eagles didn't have a shot on goal.

Ashland is 3-4-1, 2-0 in league.

MAZAMA 3, CRATER 2 — At Klamath Falls, Ivan Ramirez and Jake Bagdon each scored in the final 15 minutes for Crater, which couldn't overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit.

Ben Purtzer had the assist on both goals for the Comets (1-1 SSC).

Nonconference Boys

PHOENIX 4, PLEASANT HILL 0 — At Pleasant Hill, Jalisco Macias scored and had an assist to lead top-ranked Phoenix to the nonleague win.

Jonathan Hernandez, Danny Giardina and Omar Iboa also scored for the Pirates (8-0), who outshot Pleasant Hill, 21-1.

Tito Onesto added two assists and goalkeeper Carlos Mena posted his seventh consecutive shutout for Phoenix.

KLAMATH UNION 1, NORTH VALLEY 0 — At Merlin, Jair Ramos knocked in the game-winning goal in the final minute to lead visiting Klamath Union to the win.

Thomas Lund earned the shutout for the Pelicans, who improved to 4-2 overall.

SSC Girls

ASHLAND 5, EAGLE POINT 2 — At Eagle Point, Riley Smith recorded a hat trick to lead visiting Ashland to the Southern Sky Conference victory.

Kai Yearsley also scored for the Grizzlies (3-5, 2-0 SSC), who got on the scoreboard in the second minute when Eagle Point had an own goal off a corner kick.

Cassi Boykin and Madison Nahss each scored for the Eagles (2-3, 0-1 SSC), whose goalkeeper, Marrisa O'Connor, stopped three breakaways and had five saves.

CRATER 3, MAZAMA 1 — At Central Point, Kayla Burns scored Crater's first goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead the Comets.

After scoring in the 10th minute, Burns had an assist to Taylor McGee, who punched in a score in the 17th. Pricella Corona added a goal on an assist by Leona Steel in the 28th to give Crater (3-5, 2-0 SSC) a 3-0 halftime lead.

Mazama scored in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick by Karena Foust.
