Chieftains tie tourney record in blowout

ROGUE RIVER — Alli Ehrhardt scored a game-high 22 points to lead Rogue River to an 81-28 victory over Canyonville Christian in the opening round of the Premier West Chieftain Holiday Classic on Thursday.

The Chieftains, who have hosted this tournament for eight years, tied the tournament record for points scored. They will play McKenzie at 6 p.m. today in a semifinal. Etna and Chiloquin will square off in the other semifinal.

Jesse Sondag added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Kelly Maxey had 11 points and seven assists for Rogue River.

EAGLE POINT 50, GRANTS PASS JV 47 — At Phoenix, Jordan Henderson capped a late Eagle Point rally with a 3-point basket with seven seconds remaining in the Phoenix Invitational.

The Eagles (2-1) trailed by seven points with two minutes to play. They outscored the Cavers, who didn't get off a last-second shot, 19-9 in the fourth quarter.

Jennie Fernandes scored 17 points and Christine McCready had nine points and nine rebounds in the win.

Eagle Point plays Cascade Christian at 3 today.

Kelsey George scored a game-high 20 points and teammate Kelsie Bradfield added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Phoenix.
