Small, Sellers, Adderson all-state; Schubert top coach
Three area volleyball players have earned first-team honors in all-state voting by coaches, and Cascade Christian's Sabrina Schubert has been named coach of the year for Class 3A.
Players to be honored on the top units were Ashland middle blocker Niki Small in 5A, Becca Sellers of Cascade Christian in 3A and Kylee Adderson of St. Mary's in 2A.
Small and Sellers are seniors, and Adderson is a junior.
All were players of the year in their respective conferences.
Schubert guided the Challengers to a 17-1 record and runner-up in the state. Cascade Christian made it to the state title match for the first time in history, falling to Santiam Christian, 25-9, 25-16, 25-16.
Schubert shared the coaching honor with Kim McLain of Santiam Christian.
Challengers senior setter Breanna Holtz was a second-team pick, and junior Nikki Jones was third team.
In the Sunset League, Holtz was setter of the year and Jones defensive player of the year. Teammates who received honorable mention in the league were Amanda Kinney, Hayley Casebier and Jonnie Gilley.
Elsewhere in all-state voting, at the 5A level, Ashland senior setter Callie McCoy and senior hitter Hayley Ross received honorable mention, as did sophomore libero/defensive specialist Piper Cantrell.
In 4A, Hidden Valley senior outside hitter Lacy Wood gained honorable mention.
In 2A, St. Mary's senior outside hitter Danielle Shubat was second team, and junior setter Jordan Jackson was third team.
