Crater tops KU in meet

The Crater boys and girls defeated Klamath Union in a Southern Sky Conference swim meet Thursday at the Rogue Valley YMCA.

Jon Melbo, Jeremy Selland and Nick Heckert each won two individual events and were part of two winning relay teams as the Comet boys defeated KU, 129-92.

Melbo won the 200 freestyle (2:08.61) and 100 backstroke (1:03.67), Selland took first in the 50 freestyle (24.19) and 100 freestyle (52.22) and Heckert triumphed in the 200 individual medley (2:35.22) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.17).

In girls, Crater edged the Pelicans 115-112.

Savanna Schreiner and Amber Parker paced the win with two individual victories and wins on two relays.

Schreiner captured the 100 backstroke (1:14.50) and 200 individual medley (2:47.23), while Parker won the 100 breaststroke (1:25.44) and 100 freestyle (1:04.64).

Katie Jones, Schreiner, Parker and Kathleen Havird made up the winning 200 medley relay (2:17.37) and the same Comet group was victorious in the 200 freestyle relay (2:02.76).
