Bartley, top-ranked North Medford deny South

North Medford's Kelsie Bartley and Amanda Wolfe were models of efficiency Monday night at U.S. Cellular Community Park.

Bartley pitched in only one nail-biting inning and Wolfe was a stellar 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs during a 7-0 victory over host South Medford in Southwest Conference softball.

McKenna Storey and Amanda Freitas also added 2-for-3 efforts for top-ranked North Medford, which improved to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in conference.

Bartley allowed five singles — three in the bottom of the third — to go with six strikeouts and no walks in improving to 8-0.

"Even though she didn't have a lot of strikeouts, that was the only inning we threatened," said South Medford head coach Dan Marshall. "She threw a good ballgame and they played good (defense) behind her."

The Black Tornado opened a 3-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to a two-run double by Wolfe and fielder's choice RBI by Tejay Schmidt.

The Panthers (11-5, 4-2 SWC) set the table for a big inning of their own in the bottom of the third thanks to singles by Kylie Towry, Olivia Beamish-White and Ashleigh Hawkins. But with two outs, Bartley was able to strike out Mallory Tacdol to quell the threat.

"We were right where we wanted to be in the heart of our lineup," said Marshall. "If we could've answered there, that maybe could've put a little pressure on them."

Jenna Stevens singled home Freitas in the sixth and North scored three more runs to pull away in the seventh. Wolfe had an RBI double and a pair of throwing errors allowed the remaining runs.
