Crater, South fare well at Yreka meet

YREKA, Calif. — The Crater boys placed two runners in the top six to edge South Medford for first place, while the Crater girls finished second to Chico in the Yreka Elks Invitational on Saturday.

Ryan Perry of South Medford won the boys race convincingly in 17 minutes, 30 seconds, while Shasta's Lora James took first in the girls race, finishing in 20:32.

Jessica Vig, Damaris Remegio and Gracie Tostenson finished second, third and fourth, respectively, to pace the Crater girls.

Volleyball

ROSEBURG CLASSIC — At Roseburg, North Medford advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket and South Medford, Grants Pass and Cascade Christian each were semifinalists in the consolation bracket at the 16-team tournament.

Roseburg won the championship bracket with a 25-16, 25-17 triumph over Santiam Christian, while Marshfield topped Grants Pass 25-23, 25-17 in the consolation finals.

North Medford posted a 3-3 record in pool play and was the lone area team to make it into the championship bracket, but lost to West Salem in the quarterfinals, 25-20, 25-21.

South Medford, also 3-3 in pool play, topped Crater 25-18, 25-10 in the consolation quarterfinals but fell short against Grants Pass, 25-18, 25-22.

Cascade Christian defeated Douglas 25-18, 25-22 in the quarterfinals before falling 25-14, 25-13 to Marshfield, which barely edged Eagle Point in the quarterfinals, 28-26, 25-23.

BASIN BEST — At Klamath Falls, Class 3A St. Mary's capped an outstanding tournament with its first-ever win over 4A Henley, 25-19, 25-16, in the championship match of the eight-team tournament.

The Crusaders went 5-1 in pool play to earn a spot in the championship bracket semifinals, then routed Mazama, 25-14, 25-13, to earn the right to play the host team.

St. Mary's (7-1) was led by a pair of all-tournament selections: senior middle blocker Kylee Adderson and junior middle Alexi Provost-Shean. Adderson had 34 kills and Provost-Shean 37 in the tourney. St. Mary's libero Sam Bayer added 76 digs, including 26 in the championship match.

Football

CAMAS VALLEY 46, BUTTE FALLS 0 — At Butte Falls, Dakota Luscombe piled up 135 yards receiving, including an 88-yard touchdown reception, to lead Camas Valley to its second nonconference blowout win in as many weeks.

Caleb Lindsey also had a strong performance for the Hornets, gaining 61 yards on 11 carries.

Butte Falls' Moe Gower had 47 yards rushing on 14 carries.
