Chieftains keep hot streak going

ROGUE RIVER — The Rogue River girls soccer team has an untarnished record heading into conference play and shows no signs of slowing down.

Jessa Fricke booted home two goals for the Chieftains, who derailed Sutherlin, 3-0, in a nonconference match Monday.

Rogue River (4-0) had 26 shots on goal to Sutherlin's four, all of which were stopped by goalkeeper Brittany Coulter.

Fricke's first goal came in the 24th minute on a pass from Kelly Maxey and another was in the 77th minute on a setup from Laura Bennett.

The Chieftains' Kristen Cutting also scored in the 53rd minute on a pass from Allison Coulter.

Cross Country

MARIST INVITE — At Eugene, Hidden Valley won the girls portion Saturday, scoring 43 points to runner-up Corvallis' 44.

Sierra Brown led the Mustangs, placing second in the 5,000-meter race in 20 minutes, 6 seconds. Teammates Alyssa Watson was third in 20:11, and Anna Watson fifth in 20:32.

Kira Heycke of St. Mary's was 11th in 21:07, and Taylor Williams of Cascade Christian was 38th in 22:49. St. Mary's was 10th and Cascade Christian 11th.

In the boys meet, Hudson Eustace of Cascade Christian was fifth in 17:03, Tate Jacobson of St. Mary's 12th in 17:22 and Jonathan Cornish of North Valley 14th in 17:32.

Corvallis won the boys. North Valley was seventh, St. Mary's ninth and Cascade Christian 11th.
