South Medford netters stay unbeaten

CENTRAL POINT — South Medford's volleyball team remained undefeated with a sweep of Crater Tuesday in Southern Oregon Hybrid play.

The Panthers (3-0, 2-0 SOH) defeated the Comets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.

Sam Owirka paced South Medford in kills with seven, followed by Madi Sash with six and Grace Brennan with five.

Bree Polk contributed five aces for the Panthers, libero Amanda Gardner had 13 digs and setter Hanna Curtius 17 assists.

For Crater (0-2 SOH), setter Emily Lile had six assists, libero Courtney Savage had three kills and six digs and Krista Thorpe had three kills.

"We're learning," said Comets coach Elizabeth Bilden. "We've got a team that basically just needs to learn how to play at the varsity level. Building up that experience is one of the things we're working on, and learning to play at the 6A level with these young girls."

GRANTS PASS 3, NORTH MEDFORD 0 — Grants Pass played its best match of the young season in beating host North Medford in the Southern Oregon Hybrid, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19.

For the Black Tornado (1-2, 0-2 SOH), Katy Carter had seven kills and six digs, Emily Otoski 10 digs and 13 assists and Kim Gomez nine digs and five service aces.

For Grants Pass, Hannah Johnson amassed nine kills and 15 blocks, Makenzie Ward six kills and seven blocks, Mikayla Morgan 18 assists and Grace Marsh 18 digs.

EAGLE POINT 3, ASHLAND 1 — At Eagle Point, Eagle Point recorded a rare victory over perennially dominant Ashland, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, in the 5A Southern Oregon Hybrid.

Eagle Point (2-2) got 11 kills from Whitney Barber, nine kills from Krystyn Cline, 23 digs from Lesley Neilson and 23 assists from Carolina Regalado.

For Ashland (2-1), Mariah Keller had five aces, 12 digs and two kills, Piper Cantrell 14 digs and two kills and Sam Boehnke 12 kills.

ST. MARY'S 3, LAKEVIEW 0 — At Lakeview, St. Mary's stifling defense and a late serving run by Domonique Valdez keyed St. Mary's Southern Cascade Hybrid win, 25-21, 25-14, 25-21.

Valdez served the first nine points of the third game.

Valdez also helped on the defensive end with 25 digs, as did Sam Bayer, who notched 33 digs.

Crusader middle hitter Kylee Adderson recorded 12 kills, and setter Jordan Jackson had 28 assists.

The Crusaders (3-0, 1-0 SCH) also received solid defense from McKenzie Jackson.

BONANZA 3, ROGUE RIVER 1 — At Rogue River, Jesse Sondag had four aces, 14 kills and 14 digs as Class 3A Rogue River fell to 2A Bonanza, 25-17, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Alli Ehrhardt recorded five blocks, six kills and two digs, and setter Kailin Honea added three kills, four digs and four assists for the Chieftains (1-1).
