Unbeaten Panthers down Eagle Point

South Medford's Grace Brennan and Bree Polk took control of the middle as the Panthers remained unbeaten with a 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Eagle Point Thursday in Southern Oregon Hybrid volleyball.

Brennan, a senior middle, had four blocks, and Polk, a sophomore, led the Panthers with 11 kills.

South Medford is 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the SOH.

"Our middles were phenomenal," said Panthers coach Sarah Costa, noting that Brennan was particularly strong at the net and Polk came on in the final two sets.

Eagle Point hung with South Medford the first two games with outstanding defense.

"Their diggers are really strong," said Costa. "In the past, we've really succeeded with often just putting the ball down. We had to revamp tonight and started finding holes in their defense toward the end."

Madi Sash added 10 kills and Sam Owirka eight for the Panthers. Setter Hanna Curtius contributed 31 assists, and the dig leaders were Amanda Gardner with 27 and Emily Cutting with 18.

ASHLAND 3, ROSEBURG 1 — At Ashland, Roseburg overwhelmed Ashland with its offensive efficiency, 25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17.

Outside hitter Mariah Keller collected 18 digs and Piper Cantrell added 10 for Ashland (2-2).

Grizzlies setter Cassie Hall contributed 23 assists, and Sam Boehnke led Ashland with four aces.

GRANTS PASS 3, CRATER 0 — At Grants Pass, Grants Pass got 19 assists, six kills and three blocks from Mikayla Morgan in defeating Crater, 25-9, 25-16, 25-6, in the Southern Oregon Hybrid.

Kelsey Frey had 10 kills and eight digs for the Cavers and Hannah Johnson seven kills and 10 blocks.

DOUGLAS 3, NORTH VALLEY 1 — At Winston, North Valley (1-2) fell, 27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-12 in the nonconference match.

The Knights' Jacquie Nicholson had eight blocks and eight kills, and Stacy Kozaczuk produced 11 kills and six blocks. Hannah Zyirek had 20 assists, and Kenzie Schmoll played strong defense.

ST. MARY'S 3, YREKA, Calif. 0 — At Yreka, Calif., serving streaks and stout defense helped St. Mary's knock off Yreka, 25-12, 25-20, 25-19.

Crusader libero Sam Bayer amassed 42 digs while Kylee Adderson logged 13 kills and Alexi Provost-Sheen had 10 kills.

Domonique Valdez and Provost-Sheen each had seven-point serving streaks during the first game for the Crusaders (3-0), who had five aces in the third game.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, LAKEVIEW 0 — At Lakeview, stellar defense boosted Cascade Christian to its first Southern Cascade Hybrid victory, 25-17, 25-16, 25-22.

Outside hitter Amanda Kinney, sophomore libero Courtney Case and freshman middle blocker Karly Britton anchored the Challengers (2-1, 1-0 SCH).

SUTHERLIN 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Rogue River, Sutherlin won the nonconference match, 25-22, 25-20, 28-26.

For the Chieftains (1-2), Jesse Sondag amassed 12 kills, 16 digs and two aces. Alli Ehrhardt added three kills, three aces, four blocks and 10 digs, and Sarah had four kills, two blocks and two aces.
